SeaGlass Consulting: Social and Emotional Learning
Area of Expertise
supporting families, educators, and leaders in equipping themselves & those they support with essential life skills through social and emotional learning.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is not solely for children; it extends its benefits to teachers, leaders, and families as well. By fostering emotional intelligence, effective communication, and self-awareness, SEL equips educators to create nurturing classroom environments and connect with their students on a deeper level. For leaders, SEL provides valuable tools for building cohesive teams, enhancing workplace culture, and making informed decisions. Families benefit by gaining stronger communication skills, empathy, and conflict resolution abilities, strengthening relationships, and promoting harmony within the home. SEL is a holistic approach that enriches the lives of individuals of all ages, nurturing personal growth and healthier, more empathetic communities.
Sea glass and social and emotional learning (SEL) share a unique similarity in their transformative journeys. Just as sea glass starts as discarded shards, rough and fragmented, and matures into something beautiful and polished through the natural forces of the ocean, SEL supports individuals in their emotional growth. SEL helps individuals, particularly children, navigate the turbulent waters of their emotions and experiences, gradually smoothing the rough edges of their behavior and enhancing their emotional resilience. Both Sea Glass and SEL teach us that beauty and strength can emerge from adversity and challenges, ultimately shaping us into more refined and resilient versions of ourselves.
Chloe Lechuga is a passionate advocate and educator of 10 years dedicated to empowering families, educators, leaders, and children in their journey to develop essential Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. With years of experience in education and expertise in SEL, Chloe is committed to fostering stronger emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and interpersonal connections within these diverse communities. Her programs and initiatives are designed to equip educators with the tools to create nurturing classroom environments, leaders with the skills to build cohesive teams and healthy workplace cultures, and families with strategies for promoting empathy and effective communication within the home. Chloe's unwavering dedication to SEL is a testament to her belief that these skills are not only valuable but transformative, enriching the lives of individuals and strengthening the bonds within families and communities.
Chloe Lechuga now aims to support the bridge that connects our UNIQUE emotional worlds, nurtures RESILIENCE, fosters EMPATHY, and ultimately, facilitates the TRANSFORMATIVE growth that enriches our lives and our relationships.

Later, Chloe ventured into the vibrant world of private education, joining Terra Marin, a school nestled in Mill Valley. Here, she had the privilege of both classroom teaching and serving as the SEL consultant for Terra Schools. Testimonials
“Our son met Chloe three months into 7th grade when we pulled him out of one school mid-year and into the school where she taught. His middle school experience had left him questioning himself, disinterested in school, and lost. It is not an exaggeration to say that Chloe was an integral person in bringing back his spark. She sees young people, they trust her, and she uses her deep understanding of the emotional well-being of particularly middle schoolers, to help shape and guide them through this often hard part of growing up. She is firm but kind in the best way possible. She is one of the people, who 20 years from now, when our son thinks back on his school experience and the adults who impacted him, he will remember.”

“Chloe was the head of the SEL program at my daughter, Eliza’s, school for several years. Eliza had the great privilege of being counseled and loved by Chloe. Chloe is a naturally warm and effusive person, and she goes out of her way to get to know each student as a person. She respects each child and honors their feelings. Because of the trust Chloe intentionally built with Eliza from day one, my shy and stoic daughter knew Chloe was a safe adult she could go to any time - something every child needs. Chloe took a proactive approach to helping Eliza navigate a maze of emotions, concerns, and doubts during a challenging time in Eliza’s life. During that time, Chloe was inspired to start a weekly school girls’ lunch group. Through this forum, Eliza had the opportunity to share the difficult experience she was going through with her peers, receive support, and learn that many of them had their own challenges and needed support as well. Chloe was also brave enough to appropriately share some of her own experiences as well, which Eilza found extremely beneficial. This weekly meeting became the bright spot in each girl’s week. Chloe went out of her way to communicate with me throughout Eliza’s challenging experience, letting me know when Eliza was having a particularly hard day, answering my questions, and providing guidance around supporting Eliza at home. Due in large part to Chloe’s wisdom and devotion, Eliza came through that experience stronger, more confident, and more self-aware. Chloe is truly one of the kindest, most caring humans I have met. Chloe is a blessing to everyone who crosses her path - she is truly a gift!”

“Patient guidance from Chloe Lechuga helped our son make huge strides in his emotional self-regulation. Chloe embodies the change that she seeks to instill in the children she works with: she builds trust by hearing kids out whenever they are stuck. Seemingly unsolvable problems get solved; seemingly inconsolable hurts are addressed compassionately. All the while, Chloe’s goal is to build resilience and problem-solving skills. Better than that, she was able to encourage my son to use those tools to better manage his peer relationships and cope with his imperfections. Our son is still a work in progress and we look forward to continuing our — and his — relationship with Chloe as he matures. “

Sea Glass & SEL
The relationship between sea glass and social-emotional learning (SEL) might not seem immediately apparent, but there are valuable connections.
1. Resilience and Transformation: Sea glass begins as sharp, discarded glass fragments in the ocean. Through years of tumbling against the waves, these pieces undergo a transformation, becoming smooth, colorful, and polished. Similarly, SEL helps children develop resilience, teaching them to navigate life's challenges and emerge stronger, just like sea glass transforms over time.
2. Emotional Regulation: Just as sea glass is weathered and shaped by its environment, SEL helps children understand and manage their emotions effectively. It teaches them how to "smooth out" emotional turbulence, making them more emotionally resilient and adaptable.
3. Building Relationships: Sea glass is often found in groups, collected from different origins. Similarly, SEL emphasizes the importance of building positive relationships and social connections. It teaches children how to interact with others, appreciate diversity, and form meaningful bonds.
4. Appreciating Imperfections: Sea glass's beauty lies in its imperfections and unique qualities. SEL encourages children to embrace their own imperfections and differences, promoting self-acceptance and a sense of belonging.
5. Environmental Stewardship: Collecting sea glass often goes hand-in-hand with an appreciation for the environment. SEL can instill a sense of empathy and responsibility in children, encouraging them to care for the environment and protect the natural world, just as sea glass is a product of the sea's ecosystem.
In essence, the relationship between sea glass and SEL serves as a metaphor for the transformative power of social and emotional learning. Just as sea glass is shaped and polished by the elements, SEL helps others develop essential life skills and attributes that enable them to navigate life's challenges, form meaningful connections, and grow into resilient, empathetic individuals.
